Former TXST jazz student, Dayne Reliford (B.M. Jazz Piano, 2021) has just been nominated for two categories by the Austin Chronicle – Austin Music Awards:

  • Best Pianist/Keyboardist
  • Best Jazz

During his time at Texas State, Dayne had a 4.0 GPA and was a Music Ambassador.

Dr. Alec Scherer‘s research, “High School Band Directors’ Perceptions and Applications of Democratic Rehearsal Procedures” was recently promoted in the “National Association for Music Education Notes.” This monthly newsletter includes links and information about research and resources that are relevant for busy music teachers looking for opportunities to continue to improve their teaching practices.

Alumnus Kurt Zotz was selected to present his Master’s in Music Education capstone project “They Need Our Help: Mentoring First-Year Band Directors” at the 2023 Texas Music Educators Association Convention and Clinic. Hosted by the Texas Music Educators Association in the Henry B. González Convention Center in San Antonio, this annual event regularly draws over 25,000 music stakeholders. Kurt will present his research at the poster session on Thursday, February 9th.

Dr. Todd E. Sullivan, Director and Professor of Musicology, was elected to a second consecutive three-year term on the National Association of Schools of Music Commission on Accreditation.
