Orchestra Graduate Teaching Assistantships
The Texas State University Orchestra Program offers graduate teaching assistantships to individuals desiring a Master of Music degree in Instrumental Conducting with an emphasis in orchestral conducting.
The Graduate Teaching Assistantship for conducting majors provides opportunities in the following areas:
- Guest conduct the Symphony Orchestra in select performances
- Serve as conductor or co-conductor of the University Orchestra
- Assist with daily operations of the orchestra program
- Assist with academic courses, departmental special events and camps
Graduate Assistants are expected to participate in the Texas State Symphony Orchestra and maintain an exemplary grade point average.
Qualifications

A Bachelor of Music

Acceptance into the Graduate College and School of Music

Graduate-level performance skills on principal instrument

Musicianship, conducting skills, and rehearsal ability that enable the applicant to conduct university ensembles.
Stipend
Approximately $6000 per academic year. Health insurance can be arranged and additional scholarship assistance is possible for exceptional performers.
