FAQS

Who is watching my student over the nights and weekend?

Opera By The River is very selective in the camp counselors that we choose. Counselors are chosen with careful consideration after an interview process. Texas State University requires that  all counselors complete the Child Protection Training and will have a DPS Background check completed before the program begins. For more information please visit this website to learn more about university policies and Senate Bill 1414: https://www.avpas.txstate.edu/moc/policies.html

How many people are going to be accepted into the program?

Only 30 students will be selected for the inaugural year. This will allow us to give more focused training and support for every student involved.

What scenes/music will the students be performing?

After viewing submission videos and hearing our applicants, we will choose repertoire that is appropriate for the students and their current vocal abilities. We will put together a program of music that fits our students’ needs and will help them grow rather than pre-assign music that could be too difficult or even not challenging enough. The repertoire will be a mix of Musical Theater and Opera.

What are the dates?

The program will be held from July 15th- July 26th of 2019. Check-in day will be on the 15th and the program will end with the final opera scenes performance on July 26th.

Can family and friends come watch them perform?

Yes! We would like to have you there. The Final performance will be free and open to the public. It will be held on July 26th at 7pm. Location TBD.
