Texas State String Camp, June 23 - June 29, 2019
Texas State String Camp
Welcome! This summer marks the 33rd year that the Texas State String Camp has provided outstanding summer musical experiences for students 12-18 years of age. Our summer string camp gives students the opportunity to interact with the world-class musicians who comprise the faculty in the Texas State School of Music. Our goal is to provide exceptional experiences for musical and personal growth, ultimately enriching the quality of your child’s music education.
Participation in the Texas State String Camp encompasses performance experiences in multiple venues. From large ensembles to chamber music, our camps offer a wide spectrum of musical training. At TSSC you will discover new challenges to further your growth as a musician.
TSSC participants stay in Texas State residence halls and eat all meals in university dining halls. Camp staff over see all activities. Musical and recreational activities are balanced to pique students' interests and provide them with sufficient leisure time. What would summer camp be without fun? Participants will meet and play music with students from around the state and even a few from outside Texas, and participate in activities such as swimming, movies and more.
If you enjoy musical challenges and want to make new connections, the Texas State String Camp has much to offer! We sincerely hope that you will join us this summer for an exceptional week of musical study.
Testimonials from TSSC campers:
"I've been to the Texas State String Camp four times, and each time is better than the last. All of the counselors are incredibly inclusive, and the professors and conductors are always eager to work with us. I firmly believe that I made the Texas All-State Orchestra my freshman and sophomore years of high school because I attended this camp. This camp helped me grow as a musician and a leader of my section and has inspired me to help others get involved with music." Anna Wicker, violin
"Texas State String Camp was a great opportunity for me to play incredible string orchestra music that was new to me and to hone my technique and artistry with such gifted, world-class teachers. Every single year I came back home inspired and eager to practice." Max Healy, cello
My name is Oliver Richards and I am happy to say I have not only been a counselor at TSSC for multiple years, but I was also a camper for many years as well. TSSC changed my life for the better. It made me want to pursue a life in music, gave me friends for a lifetime and multiple summers I will remember for the rest of my life.
"I had so much fun at TSSC. It was the one time of year where I was surrounded by string players 24/7. I played more in one week than I did the entire month of camp! It was a great experience to work and play with a lot of new people. I made so many friends that I will have for the rest of my life." Emmit Ghourley, violin
"TSSC was my favorite part of the summer. It helped me make the best decision I've ever made, which was to major in music at Texas State University." Anna Trevino, cello
