Professor Julian Martin – The Juilliard School

Pianist Julian Martin first came to international attention as winner of the Montevideo International Competition in 1975. He also received major prizes in the Casadeus/Ravel (now Cleveland Int'l), Kapell and Bachauer competitions. In 1982 he was awarded the Jury's Collaborative Prize at The Tchaikovsky International Competition . He has since served as juror for many major competitions including the Iowa Int'l, Montreal, American Pianists' Foundation, Virtuosi Of The Year 2000 in St. Petersburg, as well as national events in Colombia, Canada and Korea.

He was among the original selection committee of the Gilmore Foundation's in Kalamazoo. He is founder and Artistic Director of Gijón International Piano Festival (Asturias, Spain). Since 1999 he has been faculty member of the Bowdoin International Music Festival, and Guest Faculty member of the Glenn Gould Professional School (Toronto) and the Conservatoire Tibor Varga (Switzerland), and the Banff Centre (Canada). He has presented master classes in Great Britain, Canada, Colombia, Germany, Korea, Switzerland, Taiwan, Venezuela and Israel. Martin's teachers include Leon Fleisher, Guido Agosti and Nadia Boulanger.

He has taught at Oberlin Conservatory, Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University, and has been a member of the piano faculty of The Juilliard School since 1999.
