    Boran Zhao, piano

    As a piano performance major at Texas State University, Boran Zhao has already spent fourteen years in piano playing since he was seven years old. When Zhao turned fourteen, he won the Gold Prize at the Chinese Young Musician Competition in Beijing, China. In 2015, Boran Zhao participated in the Interharmony International Music Festival in Italy. Zhao has studied with Dr. Washington Garcia and Dr. Kyung-Ae Lee. Now Boran Zhao is studying the piano with Dr. Daria Rabotkina.

    Leighton Gambles, piano

    At a young age, Leighton Gambles knew that the piano would be a driving force in his life right when he received his first one. Ever since then, a love and passion for the piano grew within the young pianist that would be carried all the way into adulthood. Now, Leighton studies with Daria Rabotkina at the School of Music within Texas State University and hopes to one day help people as a music therapist.

    Mandy Faccenda, piano

    Mandy Faccenda, a Piano Performance Major, comes from a family of musicians and has started playing piano at the age of 3. Although her preferred instrument is the piano, she is a guitarist and vocalist as well. She became a teaching assistant at the age of 14 where she fell in love with teaching the piano and aspires to have her own studio one day. Currently studying under Dr. Daria Rabotkina, Mandy continues her piano journey at Texas State University.

    Cameron Dennis, piano

    Originally from San Marcos, TX, Cameron Dennis is an MM student at Texas State University and has performed extensively across the United States, including appearances in Weill Recital Hall and The Kennedy Center's Millennium Stage. In 2010, his recordings of selected Chopin works were aired on Chicago's WFMT 98.7 as part of the Chopin Bicentennial Celebration. His principal teachers include Julia Kruger, Sylvia Wang, Brian Ganz, and Jason Kwak.

    Born in Nanchang, China, Kexin Li started learning piano when she was 5 years old. She received her Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance at Sichuan Conservatory of Music in China under the tutelage of Professor Bai Tao and Professor Xu Yi. She is currently pursuing Master of Music degree in Piano Performance and Pedagogy and studies with Dr. Rabotkina at Texas State University in San Marcos, TX. Kexin also holds a Graduate Assistant position and teaches piano at the university.

    YuHua Chiu Oliphint, piano

    YuHua Chiu Oliphint was born and raised in Taiwan. She started her piano study at age 8 and the clarinet study at age 16. She graduated in 2013 from the Chinese Culture University in music major in Taiwan. In December 2015, she graduated form master’s degree in clarinet performance at Texas State University under the supervision of Dr. Vanguel Tangarov. She is also doing her piano certificate program at Texas State University under the supervision of Dr. Kyung-Ae Lee now.

    South Korean born Hyunjin Wang attained her undergraduate degree from Hanyang University as a student of Dr. So Young Yoon. Hyunjin is currently pursuing her MM degree in piano performance under the tutelage of Dr. Jason Kwak at Texas State University. In her first year, she has already won first place in the Texas State Concerto Competition and first place in the Tuesday Musical Club Young Artists Piano Competition. Hyunjin is currently a Graduate Teaching Assistant at Texas State University.

    John Schmidt, organ

     

    JOHN C. SCHMIDT, Professor of Music, teaches music theory, music history, and organ at Texas State; currently he is coordinator of music history in the School of Music. He holds a Bachelor of Music degree from South-western University, Georgetown, Texas, studying organ with R. Cochrane Penick, and a Master of Sacred Music from Union Theological Seminary, New York, with organ study from Vernon de Tar. He completed a Ph.D. in musicology at New York University, with a dissertation on the 19th-century American composer, John Knowles Paine. Dr. Schmidt has published scholarly editions of Paine’s works, most recently Paine’s Second Symphony, “Spring,” and is co-author of the Paine article for Grove’s Dictionary of Music and Musicians and Oxford Music Online, as well as thirteen other articles for that publication. A fifth-generation Texan, he is also involved in research concerning the music of 19th-century Germans in Texas. Dr. Schmidt is a Trustee of the Sinfonian Educational Foundation of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia and a member of the Governing Board of Inspiration Point Fine Arts Colony—Opera in the Ozarks. An active organist, he is a Fellow of the American Guild of Organists and one of its professional certification examiners. He is organist for Covenant Presbyterian Church in Austin.

    Daria Rabotkina, piano

     

    A native of Kazan, Russia, and the daughter of two pianists, Daria Rabotkina is lauded as “…a pianist full of fire and warmth” (The Plain-Dealer). A former student of Vladimir Feltsman and Natalya Antonova, Since 2016, she holds the position of an Assistant Professor of Piano at Texas State University. Her performing career includes collaborations with the San Francisco Symphony, New World Symphony and Kirov Orchestra, and recitals at the Ravinia’s Rising Stars series, Kennedy Center, Weill Recital Hall, among others. Winner of the 2007 Concert Artists Guild International Competition, Dr. Rabotkina’s latest CD is scheduled to be released in 2018, featuring Humoreskes by Dvořák, Reger, Rachmaninov and Schumann.     Svetlana Belsky is an in-demand recitalist and chamber pianist, noted for her remarkable rapport with audiences and stylistic versatility. She has appeared in the Ukraine, Russia, Poland, China, Taiwan and Hong Kong, and throughout the U.S. Performance credits include Carnegie Recital Hall, Kiev Philharmonic Hall, Dame Myra Hess Series, Music in the Loft, countless university concert series, live recitals on Chicago’s WFMT and New York’s WQXR, and guest appearances with the University of Chicago Symphony, Southern Illinois Symphony and Chicago Chamber Orchestra.

    Ishan Loomba, piano

    Ishan Loomba, from Albuquerque, NM, is a 17-year-old pianist, composer, and avid student of music history. Since beginning piano lessons in 2007, Ishanhas given nine solo recitals and performed with a number of orchestras, including the NM Philharmonic in 2013, and in 2015 as the Jackie McGehee Young Artist Competition winner.His recent notable public appearances include the Overtures concert series (Aspen Music Festival, broadcast live on Colorado Public Radio) and the Round Rock Symphony, both in 2017. Ishan has been named a Chopin Foundation of the US scholar for the past threeyears and has won a number of prizes in recent competitions: 2nd prize, Steinway International Sonata Competition (Colburn Music Academy); Dickinson Prize (Texas State International Piano Festival); 1st prize in Schubert performance (Great Composers Competition) and national finalist, 2018 MTNA Senior Piano Competition.Since2012, Ishan has been apiano student of Dr. Carol Leone (SMU Meadows School of the Arts,Dallas, TX).

After her acclaimed debut with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, she has performed on many of the world’s great stages, with numerous orchestras, in solo appearances, and with conductors such as Leonard Slatkin and Keith Lockhart. Faliks is currently Professor of Piano and Head of Piano at UCLA.

    Recipient of the D.M.A degree from Eastman School of Music, pianist Yuri Blinov has completed his Artist Diploma program at TCU in Fort Worth, TX. He was among the top 30 pianists competing in the 2001 Van Cliburn International Competition and has won several prizes of other significant competitions in U.S. including first prize of 2001 Piano MTNA Competition. Performances took Yuri to Japan, Poland, Belgium, Germany, China and U.S. Yuri currently teaches in Minsk, Belarussia.
