Douglas Skinner is Professor of Saxophone at Texas State University-San Marcos. He holds the Bachelor of Music and Master of Music Education degrees from The University of North Texas where he was a Graduate Teaching Assistant and has complete post –graduate courses at the University of Texas at Austin. Mr. Skinner served a three-year tour of duty in the 328th Army Band, performing on saxophone, bassoon and clarinet. As a concert soloist and soprano saxophonist in the Nova Saxophone Quartet, he has presented concerts in England, Poland, Scotland, Russia, Mexico and throughout the United States. The Nova Saxophone Quartet recordings “InNOVAtions” and “Double Image” are on the Musical Heritage Society label. “Outside the Box” was released on the Equilibrium label. The quartet was also featured in an article in Texas Monthly magazine. Mr. Skinner’s publications include articles in Jazz Educators Journal, Saxophone Symposium, and Popular Musicians. In addition, he has published several essays in various encyclopedias from Salem Press. Mr. Skinner has served as Interim Director of the School of Music for three terms and is currently serving a fourth term.
