Stars At Night Concert Series presents Emil Richards, vibraphone, with jazz faculty artists Morris Nelms, piano, Utah Hamrick, bass and Butch Miles, drums

As a studio musician in Los Angeles, Emil Richards is known as one of the most desirable percussionists in jazz, rock and other popular music and was called on to play in countless movie and television soundtracks. He started playing xylophone when he was six and, while still in tenth grade, Richards played with the Hartford Symphony Orchestra. After graduating from the Hartt School of Music, he played in an Army band in Japan with Toshiko Akiyoshi. Richards later worked with Charles Mingus, Willie Ruff, Ed Shaughnessy, Ed Thigpen, George Shearing's Quintet, Paul Horn, Jimmy Witherspoon, and many others. In the early-to-mid 1960's, Richards co-led the Hindustani Jazz Sextet with Don Ellis. Also a member of Stan Kenton's Neophonic Orchestra, he toured with both Frank Sinatra and Frank Zappa in the 1970's.

The Hill Country Youth Chorus, directed by Dr. Lynn Brinckmeyer, will present its "Spring Sing" Concert. The chorus concert will end with the performance of a piece written by graduate composition student, Jack Wilds. After a brief intermission the remainder of Jack's composition recital will continue with other performers.  The audience may wish to leave at intermission, but is invited to stay for the entire program.
